Having unveiled the title track of her forthcoming EP When It's The Time a matter of weeks ago, recent Moshi Moshi signing Alice Costelloe shares its reflective follow up 'My Whole Life'. Created collaboratively with Tunng's Mike Lindsay (Laura Marling, Anna B Savage et al), warm analogue synths ripple beneath Costelloe's contemplative lyricism. Groovy bass lines sit tastefully in the mix, punctuating the satisfying and unusual chord changes that the single moves through, as tight acoustic drums control the dynamics. The singer, songwriter and former member of Big Deal explains: "What I had initially dismissed as standard post tour burnout continued for months, eventually escalating into the diagnosis of a more serious health condition. It was the first time I’d really had to consider my health and mortality, and this was the first song I wrote when I started on the medication that I’ll now be on for life. I looked back on all the times I’d not felt right for years and wondered how different things could have been if I’d acted sooner. It was a real wake up call to appreciate the life I have and take care of myself and the people I love." When It's The Time will arrive on the 1st of November. -Holly Mullineaux
